Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Electoral Officer Rajath Kumar today said they are prepared to hold the early elections if the Assembly was dissolved and Election Commission takes a decision.
Talking to media persons here today, the CEO said there are speculations of early elections and dissolution of the Assembly. The early polls will be conducted if the Election Commission takes a decision in case of dissolution of the Assembly, he said. “Right now we are working for general elections as per the schedule and the material was getting ready. The EC will take a decision and then take all required measures for conducting the elections”, he remarked.
However, the election process has already begun, the Chief Electoral Officer said after holding a meeting with the representatives of all political parties on Wednesday. He informed them about the release of draft electoral rolls and revision with some inclusions of new votes and deletions of fake votes. Rajath Kumare agreed to provide time for filing claims and objections up to October 31.
The political parties have to appoint booth-wise agents to update the electoral rolls with the Booth Level Electoral Officers. The draft electoral rolls comprise a total of 2.61 crore electorate, but in the 2014 elections, the total electorates was 2.81 crore in Telangana region, he said. The electorate has come down by 20 lakh as some people have left to Andhra Pradesh and some people were not matching with Aadhaar, he added. The State needs more than 84,000 VV Pat, control units, 1.23 lakh ballot units, which are being readied at ECIL for the elections, he added.
