Elections 2019: Treat all Bengal polling booths as ‘Super Sensitive’, BJP to EC

As the election dates were announced by the Election Commission on Sunday, a delegation of BJP met the Election Commission on Tuesday and asked that Bengal should be declared a “sensitive” state during 2019 elections.

The central forces should be deployed at all poll stations in Bengal due to its “history of violence,” said Union Minister and senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad who was part of the BJP delegation. “We have demanded that the West Bengal should be declared as a super-sensitive state,” Prasad added.

In 2014 general elections, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) registered a thumping victory by winning 34 Lok Sabha seats out of 42 seats in West Bengal. The Congress won 4, while the BJP and the CPI(M) managed to bag two seats each.

Ravi Shankar Prasad said that deployment of central police forces at all booths is a must because Bengal is the only state in the country where over 100 people were killed in the local elections. He also alleged that the state policemen act like Trinamool cadre.
