UP Elections 2017: EC postpones polls in Alapur after SP candidate Chandrashekhar Kanauji passes away

New Delhi: Elections to Alapur constituency in Uttar Pradesh were postponed on Sunday following the death of Samajwadi Party candidate Chandrashekhar Kanaujia.

He passed away after having a heart attack, during election campaigning in Ambedkar Nagar.

The polls were to be held on February 15.

As per law, if candidates of recognised party die, it is countermanded and party is given time to field a new candidate and polling fixed for new date.

The new dates will be announced later.
