Elections for 10 MLC seats under MLA quota will be held next month. Election notification is likely to be issued at the end of current month. 5 seats are likely to be won by ruling Congress while 3 seats may be won by main opposition TDP. 2 seats have tough competition. It is pressure on every political party to give representation to Muslims. TDP MLC Mr. Ibrahim bin Abdullah Masqati’s term also ends.
Recently the term of 2 Muslim Congress MPs of Rajya Sabha and one of CPI ended but the ruling Congress did not field Muslim leader on a single seat, owing to which resentment prevailed among Congress Muslim leaders. On the other hand TDP also ignored Muslim candidates.
So both Congress and TDP are under pressure to field Muslim candidates for MLC seats.
