`Election-fixer` Najam Sethi ridding cricket of fixing is a joke: Imran Khan

Karachi [Pakistan]:Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan launched a verbal volley at Pakistan Super League (PSL) chairman Najam Sethi, stating that it was a ‘joke’ that a person being allegedly involved in election rigging, is eliminating spot-fixing from the country’s cricket.

The 64-year-old’s comments came in the wake of a provisional suspension imposed by the PCB on cricketers Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif under its Anti-Corruption Code, as part of an ongoing investigation into an international syndicate which is believed to be attempting to corrupt the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) being played in Dubai.

Reflecting on the same, Sethi had earlier said, “It would not be appropriate to comment on the specifics of the case, however, this investigation is a clear demonstration of our determination to drive corruption out of our sport.”

Imran took a jibe at Sethi via his Twitter account and said that although spot-fixing only affects cricket, election `fixing` is a greater offence that threatens democracy.

“Joke: Election fixer Sethi to eliminate cricket spot fixing! Latter only affects cricket; elec “fixing” greater crime threatening democracy,” the PTI chairman tweeted.

In 2015, Imran had accused Sethi of fixing ’35 punctures’, referring to alleged electoral fixing in 35 constituencies of Punjab in the 2013 general elections, the Dawn reported.

However, the PSL chairman swept aside all the allegations levelled against him by labelling it as “political statement”. (ANI)
