Bengaluru: Karnataka BJP lawmaker Sanjay Patil has sparked communal furore saying state election is Hindu Vs Muslims and not about roads and drinking water. The elections in the state are to be held on May 12, and the video of him making blatant remarks may be attributed to instigate polarization.
“I am Sanjay Patil, I am Hindu, this is a Hindu Rashtra (nation) and we want to build the Ram temple. If Lakshmi Hebbalikar (Congress candidate and president of KPCC women’s wing) says she can build the mandir – vote for her,” says Patil
Adding, “they will build Babri Masjid instead. Whoever wants Babri Masjid, Tipu Jayanthi they should vote for the Congress. And who wants Shivaji Maharaj and Ram Mandir should vote for the BJP,” the lawmaker is heard saying in the regional language at a gathering. However, it is not clear when and where the video was recorded.
Sanjay Patil who represents the Belagavi Rural constituency in Karnataka is not new to controversies. Last year he was heard threatening a police officer in a video clip when the officer was trying to maintain order during a motorcycle rally.
