Hyderabad, November 17: To avert any attempts by the Telangana activists to barge into the Secretariat, elaborate security was continuing for the last three days, with deployment of large number of civil police, Task Force personnel and Rapid Action Force (RAF) men.
For the last three days, the tightened security was continuing at the Secretariat as the pre-December 31 was showing impact in the State. On or before December 31, Justice Srikrishna Committee is going to submit its report to the Union Government on the prevailing situation in the state and suggest measures for solution to the Telangana Statehood issue.
The Telangana agitators, particularly members of the OU JAC were targeting the Secretariat to highlight their demand at State level. The Hyderabad as free zone issue is also causing much tension in the Capital now-a-days.
The Special Protection Force (SPF) personnel, who were guarding the Secretariat, were having tough time, as the Telangana activities were making efforts to sneak into the premises.
The OU JAC members had earlier surprised the security personnel at the Secretariat main gate by trying to barge into the high security zone demanding cancellation of the State Formation Day celebrations on November 1. The DSC-2008 candidates also created tension by making a vain attempt to gate-crash
into the Secretariat.
Keeping in mind the magnitude of the Telangana activists’ present agitation for postponement of SI recruitment test till the Hyderabad free zone issue was settled, foolproof security coverage was
continuing at the State Secretariat, which was hosting the Chief Minister’s Office and Ministers and offices of departmental heads, for the last three days.
Outside the Secretariat, i e in front of the entrance gates, the RAF armed personnel were deployed to face the any situation. In addition to this, large number of civil policemen were also deployed.
The Task Force teams were also keeping an eye on the surrounding areas of the Secretariat.
Keeping in view the possibility of women joining the agitators, a women RAF team was deployed to swing into action.
The barbed wire fencing, which were erected around the statues of Telugu Talli and Potti Sriramulu on October 29, were still continuing. The police setup fencing around the two statues following warnings from the Telangana agitators that they would dismantle the Andhra leaders’ statues, if the State Formation day celebrations were not cancelled.
