From ‘Ek Din Ka Sultan’ to ‘Victory of Democracy’: Twitter reacts to Yeddyurappa’s resignation

NEW DELHI: Minutes after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader BS Yeddyurappa announced his resignation from the post of Karnataka Chief Minister ahead of the floor test, his resignation was termed as ‘victory of secular forces’.

Many took to social media to express their views saying the electoral battle reduced Yeddyurappa to ‘Ek Din Ka Sultan.’

The 3-day old B S Yeddyurappa government in Karnataka collapsed on Saturday, with the CM announcing his decision to resign without facing a trust vote.

Noteworthy, hours after becoming Karnataka CM, Yeddyurappa swung into action mode and transfers four IPS officers and an IAS officer.

Here are some reactions:

Celebrating the success of the Congress, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said:

“I salute the MLAs of Congress and JD (S) for saving the democracy. They did not get lured by sops offered by BJP nor did they feel intimidated. Although they got elected as MLAs only four days ago, the Congress and JD (S) legislators have proved that the people of Karnataka have made the right choice. They had already defeated BJP in the electoral battle and by reducing Yeddyurappa to ‘ek din ka sultan’ they defeated the wrong aspirations and ambitions of PM Modi and Amit Shah to grab power at all costs.” Uttam Kumar Reddy said.

Echoing his views, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, tweeted:

Ahead of the scheduled floor test on Saturday, Yeddyurappa resigned before facing a crucial trust vote in the Karnataka Assembly with numbers stacked against the BJP in the newly elected House, bringing an end to a political thriller that began after May 12 elections threw up a hung verdict.

In his address, the 75-year-old BJP leader stated that irrespective of whether his government was in power, he would continue to serve people until his last breath.
