Eight more swine flu cases in Kolkata, total rises to 47

Kolkata, August 17: With eight more persons, including niece of former India captain Sourav Ganguly, testing positive for swine flu today and the total number of infected in this metropolis and suburbs rose to 47.

Sneha, a class-V student of La Martiniere for Girls, was diagnosed H1N1 positive this morning, nodal officer in-charge of swine flu information Tapas Sen said.

She was admitted to the isolation ward of the M R Bangur Hospital, her father and Sourav’s elder brother Snehashish Ganguly said.

“She developed flu like symptoms on August 15. We had sent her samples for tests. She has tested positive,” Snehashish said.

A boy, Akash Chaudhury, who tested positive for the virus earlier, was in a serious condition, Sen said, adding he has been kept in the intensive care unit of the state-run R G Kar hospital where he was admitted a few days ago.

Sen said 25 confirmed patients were discharged after cure, while 22 patients who tested positive were admitted to three different hospitals here.
