Eight persons, including four women and two children, were killed when a car they were travelling in dashed against a lorry near Alangulam on Sunday evening.
The police said a group of people was returning home in the vehicle after attending a function at Tirunelveli.
The dead were identified as G. Ammaiyappan (44) of Melagaram, his daughter A. Selvi (20), son A. Gowtham Raj (9), U. Arumuga Kalanjiyam (55) of Seevanallur, K. Jayakumari (37) of Sivagiri, her daughter K. Gayathri (13), son K. Harish (10), and car driver A. Bala (32) of Tenkasi.
Jayakumari’s husband Kalimuthu (44) and lorry driver M. Velmurugan (37) of Nanguneri have been admitted to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tirunelveli Range V. Varadharaju, and Superintendent of Police Vijayendra S. Bidari rushed to the spot.
