A clash between security forces and Taliban militants in the eastern Nangarhar province left six insurgents and two police personnel dead, media reported Saturday.
“The armed insurgents attacked a police checkpoint in Ghani Khil district late Friday night, killing two policemen, but the police retaliated, killing six insurgents on the spot,” Xinhua news agency quoted provincial government spokesman Ahmad Zia Abdulzai as telling reporters.
Taliban-led militancy and conflicts in Afghanistan have intensified since NATO-led forces ended their combat mission at the end of last year and Afghan security forces assumed security responsibility from Jan 1 this year.
