Eight injured in clashes in Sopore, Baramulla

Srinagar, March 19: At least eight persons were today injured when police used batons and lobbed tear-gas shells to disperse stone-pelting mobs, protesting the killing of a civilian, in Sopore and Baramulla districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

A large crowd gathered near Sopore police station, 55 kms from here, this morning and indulged in stone-pelting prompting the police to fire tear gas shells and use batons to disperse them, officials said.

The protestors were demanding a probe into the killing of a vendor, Tanvir Ahmad, who along with a policeman was killed in an exchange of fire between the ultras and securitymen at a bus stand on Tuesday. Locals alleged that the youth was killed by police when securitymen were attacked by militants.
