Egypt, October 01: The altercations broke out after the police forced protesters to clear the historic square in central Cairo on Saturday.
Angry demonstrators had decided to continue their sit-in protests until their demands were met by military rulers.
Protesters hurled stones at the police on Saturday when the latter charged hundreds of people who had stayed in the square with shields and batons arresting 10.
The development on Saturday followed a huge rally dubbed ‘Reclamation of Revolution’ rally on Friday in which demonstrators demanded an end to the emergency laws and military rule.
A dozen more had been arrested on Friday as military police blocked hundreds of young protesters heading to the defense ministry.
Political activists vowed to go back to the Liberation Square to keep up the pressure on the military council to meet their demands including an end to emergency law and the military trial of civilians as well as eth speedy trial of former regime officials.
About 60 political parties and groups, including the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood, have threatened to boycott an upcoming parliamentary election and have set Sunday as the set deadline for the military council to meet their demands.
At least 846 people were killed during the recent uprising in Egypt, which led to the eventual fall of Mubarak in February.
Egyptians are still skeptical about the rapid transition towards democracy and civilian rule in the North African country.
