Egyptian national identity cards to be issued in UAE

Dubai, April 29: The Egyptian expatriates living in the country may get new or renew their country’s national identity cards in the UAE itself by the end of May.

Mohammed Abdul Hakam, Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs and Egyptians Abroad, will lead a consular mission to the UAE from May 25 to 29 in this regard.

“The mission’s visit to the UAE is in line with the Egyptian government’s keenness to keep in touch with the community abroad and solve their problems,” said Egyptian Ambassador to the UAE Tamer Mansour.

“The mission is to include representatives from various state departments to meet the Egyptian community here, learn about their needs and solve any problem that may hinder their access to the services provided by the Egyptian bodies.”

The mission will include representatives from the Egyptian Civil Affairs Department to issue the national identity cards or renew them.

“Applicants may approach the Egyptian Embassy in Abu Dhabi from May 25 to 27, while the expatriates staying in Dubai and the Northern Emirates may visit the Egyptian consulate in Dubai from May 27 to 29,” he said.

Kamal Al Tamalawy, a legal researcher at the Egyptian Consulate in Dubai, said the applicants must submit the original birth certificate, expired ID card, original passport, and two recent photographs.

The fee will be $50 or the equivalent amount in dirhams. It takes about a month for the new ID card to be issued.
