Egyptian expert to restore mummy

Hyderabad, August 14: Finally there is a ray of hope for the 4,500-year-old mummy kept at the Andhra Pradesh State Museum after a renowned Egyptian expert arrived in Hyderabad on a mission to save the mummy.

Dr Tarek Al Awadi, director of scientific research at the Cairo-based Supreme Council of Antiques visited the museum yesterday.

He said that he would be able to restore the mummy.

“For this we will have to bring the chemicals and other material from Egypt,” he said after inspecting the mummy, believed to be that of a 18-year-old girl from who died in the year 2,500 BC.

The state’s tourism and culture minister, Dr J. Geeta Reddy accompanied Al Awadi during his visit to the museum.

“I will undertake a detailed examination of the mummy over the next six days before drawing any conclusions,” he said.

However, Al Awadi found the lower part of the mummy to be in a pretty bad shape.

Al Awadi also met the Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy at the State Assembly and discussed the restoration of the priceless antique at the state museum.
