Egyptian cultural festival concludes

New Delhi, October 10: Aswan, the ethnic dance troupe from Egypt, kept the audiences enthralled with their music and dance numbers as the week-long Egyptian cultural festival came to a close here last night.

The concluding ceremony of the festival , held from October 3-9 by the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt, witnessed the Egyptian troupe taking the audience through the intricate history of the land and unravelling its secrets through an interpretation via music and dance.

The troupe captivated audiences with its mesmerising dance performances which were not just a sum of fluid movements but a cultural apocalypse.

The cultural performances were followed by a food festival.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, H E Higazy said the pan-India initiative was a step towards strengthening cultural ties between India and Egypt.

”Egypt is a culturally rich nation with myriad art forms dominating the landscape. The festival brought an eclectic mix of our diverse art treasures, from traditional to contemporary, to the Indian audience. The cultural exchange is designed to reflect our deep-rooted affinities.” The main focus of the festival, which began with the screening of the movie ‘The Destiny’, was the arts and the culture segment.

The festival, which covered several cities in the country in addition to the Indian capital, showcased Egyptian art and cultural history, in essence a visual representation of Egypt’s national identity and a manifestation of the contemporaneous intellectual discourse.
