Cairo, February 06: Egypt has released an Israeli man arrested during protests in the country’s northeast following the request of Israel’s Foreign Ministry.
Tomer Sahiak was arrested at the seaport town of Suez on Wednesday, Ynetnews reported on Wednesday.
The detention took place on the ninth consecutive day of the protests across Egypt against the regime of three-decade-long President Hosni Mubarak.
Israel has supported Mubarak’s stay in power, downplaying the unprecedented popular outrage.
To prevent a revolution in the country, Tel Aviv has also allowed Egypt to deploy troops to Sinai despite a Tel Aviv-Cairo peace agreement, which has kept the peninsula demilitarized for decades.
A video obtained recently by Media showed the detention of a member of Israeli General Staff Reconnaissance Unit, Sayeret Matkal in Egypt on Thursday amid massive anti-government protests.
Moav Vardi, correspondent for Israel’s Channel 10, who was sent to Egypt to report on the protests in the capital, Cairo, was also arrested by Egypt, but was returned to Israel on Thursday.
