Egypt President Takes Symbolic Tahrir Oath

Mohamed Morsi the new elected President of Egypt took an informal oath of office on Friday, June 29, in a speech to hundreds of thousands of protesters in Cairo’s Tahrir Square, defying the generals’ attempt to limit powers of Egypt’s first civilian president as reported by OnIslam.net.

“There is no power above people power,” Morsi declared to wild cheers from the crowd, Reuters reported.

“The revolution must continue until all is objectives are met,” he added.

Addressing the crowd, Morsi promised to be a “president for all Egyptians”, adding: “You are the source of all authority and legitimacy.”
