Efforts on to supply LPG through pipeline: CM

Hyderabad, December 23: The Chief Minister, Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday informed that efforts were on to supply cooking gas to the house holds through pipeline in the state which would reduce the cost of LPG compared to the existing cylinder system.

These views were expressed by him while inaugurating a conference titled “A P Hub of Natural Gas in India”. The conference was organized by Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) in collaboration with the State Government in the city.

Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy said that in the current scenario, the importance of gas has become paramount with the discovery of gas in KG basin in the State.

The Chief Minister informed that the Government of India has planned to provide LPG domestic connections to 50 to 60 percent of total households through pipeline in the country.

Stating that the State Government was also a stakeholder in the project of supply of gas through pipeline, the Chief Minister said that in Vijayawada, LPG would be supplied through 445 kms of pipeline, serving 2.25 lakh domestic connections.

Mr Reddy hoped that the conference would have fruitful discussions, which would be helpful for Government.

With the betterment of supply of LPG gas, there would be conservation particularly in rural areas as the villagers were cutting trees to use wood for cooking purpose. The rural people were earlier also adopted cutting of forests as employment. But with the introduction of MGNREGP, this scenario has changed as working days were provided to the rural people, he added.

“The State Government is committed to provide cooking gas to the people at cheaper and affordable price”, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy said.
