New Delhi: Talking about the mentally challenged prisoners in the jails of India and Pakistan, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday said that efforts were being made to get them back.
“Both countries have some prisoners in our jails who have become mentally challenged. This is also a humanitarian case. I have talked to our ambassador there that just like Geeta if such prisoners could also return,” she said.
“If such prisoners return then it will be a great thing. We are working on it,” she added.
Pakistan High Commission spokesperson Manzoor Ali Memon had earlier expressed hope that Pakistani prisoners would be released as soon as possible so that they come and stay with their families for the rest of their lives.
Ali said there were 459 Pakistani prisoners, who were languishing in Indian jails. (ANI)
