Hyderabad, January 07: Educational institutions remained shut in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh today following a bandh call given by the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) in protest against the alleged police action on the students of Osmania University here.
Pro-Telangana students took out rallies at many places in the region.
JAC called for a shutdown of educational institutions in the region against the alleged police action at the varsity yesterday. The students were agitating against the Srikrishna Committee recommendations on the Telangana issue.
The students of the university, nerve centre of statehood movement, had called for a general bandh in the region today, but the JAC appealed only for closure of educational institutions.
No untoward incident was reported during the shutdown.
Normal life was not affected in Hyderabad and other places. Shops and other commercial establishments were open and public transport buses ran on schedule.
