Education sector needs support of industrialists, corporate Houses: Srihari

Exhorting industrialists and corporate companies to have social responsibility to help push the Education sector and research to flourish, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari today said all schools in the State will go “Digital” by June 2017.

Speaking at a conference on “Excellence in Education” here along with IT & Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao, the Deputy Chief Minister said the State government aims to provide free education with standards across the State. He also said the government will soon regularize services of the contract lecturers as promised in the party manifesto and fill vacant posts. “Regularization process was delayed due to court cases and on clearance the contract lecturers will be into rolls”, he said.

Srihari said all the government schools and institutions in the State will be digitalized by next June besides providing them with basic facilities and infrastructure. The industrialists and corporate companies have to support the Education sector and its research, he said, adding that the government was striving to provide free quality education and efforts were on to see that over six lakh students get this opportunity after setting up of 1,250 to 1,300 Gurukul Schools for the purpose.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was determined to keep the promise of providing free education in the government schools to overshadow the private ones. The Education Minister also said measures were being taken to provide facilities and infrastructure to schools, including water and power supply, toilets, plants, running water, computer labs, compound walls, practical labs and buildings by June 2017. In first phase, 3,352 schools have gone digital and the rest will be digitized by June next. He also said it was decided to launch Telangana Skills and Knowledge Centers in degree colleges to provide the students soft skills and offer them certificates. Though previous government sanctioned junior and degree colleges, they failed to provide facilities and infrastructure, he charged.

However, the TRS Government was fulfilling its promises made on the eve of Assembly elections and was focusing on constructing new buildings and infrastructure, he claimed. He hoped that similar conferences will help the Education sector to develop and it is time corporate companies extend support to Education and research in universities. The government has identified some lapses in the Education system and steps were being taken to plug them, he said, adding that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao wants to revamp the Education wing to surpass others at international level and excel in its endeavors.
