Education fortnight from today

Hyderabad, June 13: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy issued special directions to district collectors in connection with the Education fortnight to be organized at the beginning of new academic year form June 13 to 25. Addressing district collectors through a video conference along with some cabinet colleagues chief minister said that during the education fortnight programme, organized by the government, measures such as inauguration of one thousand newly constructed school premises, distribution of books, counseling with the parents of dropouts, a door-to-door campaign for enrolment of 5+ aged children and inauguration of extra classrooms established under 3569 Rajiv Vidya Mission, will be taken. Apart from that foundation stone will be laid for new buildings for 500 schools.

The programme would also focus on progress of work for drinking water units and toilets under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. Out of the 10,194 toilets sanctioned during 2010-11, 8,215 have been completed and 1,700 are in progress. Similarly, only 508 schools have been provided with drinking water facility during 2010-11 against a target of 745 schools. During 2011-12, 15,465 toilets for girls have been sanctioned and these were proposed to be completed before the start of the next academic year. At least 6,813 drinking water facilities for schools will be taken up during this financial year, said officials.
