Edinburgh: Sikh Council UK condemns Gurdwara attack

Edinburgh: The Sikh Council UK Gurdwara condemned the suspected arson attack in a statement released on Tuesday.

Sikh Council UK Chair of community safety Rajeev Singh assured that his colleague Jagtar Singh was in contact with the President of Guru Nanak Gurdwara Edinburgh Bhai Kulbir Singh and has also extended his support and sympathies.

He further said in the statement that the explosion was contained and only the entrance and the adjoining areas were affected while there has been no harm to the sachkhand area or the hall. “We are also getting in touch with Police Scotland to convey the gravity of community’s concerns over this attack and to seek assurance the investigation will fully pursue all lines of enquiry including race and religious hate crimes,” the statement said.

This is the second such incident.

He further urged that the Gurdwara management committees to undertake safety audits to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to protect the Gurdwara property and Guru Granth Sahib and the other Sikh scriptures.

According to media reports, a Gurdwara in Edinburgh was targeted in a petrol bomb explosion here on Tuesday. However, no one was reported injured in the attack.
