ED approaches SC for Hasan Ali remand extension

New Delhi, March 31: The Enforcement Directorate (ED), Thursday, approached the Supreme Court seeking the extension of Hasan Ali’s remand by two more days to interrogate him further.

Yesterday, the sessions court in Mumbai had granted ED the permission to take Hasan Ali to its office for questioning.

Ali was to be brought to ED office in south Mumbai every day between 10.30 am to 5.30 pm till April 1 but the ED seems to be wanting more time to question him, hence the plea in the SC.

But Ali’s lawyers had opposed the ED’s questioning and had sought relief from the SC. However, the apex court today rejected to entertain the plea and asked them to approach the appropriate court for relief. Pune-based stud farm owner Hasan Ali is currently under arrest for alleged money-laundering and lodged in Arthur Road jail in Mumbai.

On March 25, the sessions court had remanded Mr. Ali to judicial custody till April 8. Mr. Ali, who has allegedly stashed away billions of dollars in Swiss bank accounts, was arrested in the first week of this month.

The interrogation would be video-recorded as per the Supreme Court’s order.
