Economic growth likely at 7 per cent or more during current fiscal: PM

Bhubaneswar, December 28: Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has said that the Indian economy has seen a phase of around 8.5 per cent growth during the UPA government’s regime.

He was speaking while inaugurating the 92nd session of the Indian Economic Association in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.

Dr. Singh also said that the economic reforms have helped in bringing down the number of people living below poverty line in the country.

The Prime Minister called upon the world to find ways to combat the problem of climate change.

Speaking on the occasion, Orissa Chief Minister Navin Patnaik said that efforts should be made to economically strengthen the poor and weak states.

Later in the day, Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of the proposed campus of the National Institute of Science Education and Research at Argul near Bhubaneswar.
