Economic Empowernment to women for nation growth: Jhansi

Vizianagaram Member of Parliament Botsa Jhansi Lakshmi today inaugurated a 2-day UGC national seminar on ‘Violence against Women, Combating and Coping Strategies’ in the Andhra University (AU). The seminar was organised by Dr Durgabai Deshmukh Centre for Women’s Study.

Speaking after inaugurating the seminar on International Women’s Day here, Dr Lakshmi said the economic and women empowernment go together for a successful nation.

She said women played a successful role in economic development in China. Dr Lakshmi said a mother should think about gender equality. ‘Whether it is boy or girl, both are equal,’ she said.

Saying that violence on women was more in villages earlier, she noted that trend is now increasing in urban areas. However, she said drop in female foeticide is a good sign.

She also released a souvenir. Dr Durgabai Deshmukh Centre for Women’s Study Prof K R Rajani said 56 research papers to curb violence against women will be discussed in the two-day seminar. UNI
