Dubai, January 30: Economic crimes have increased in Dubai due to advanced technologies being put to use by criminals to forge credit cards, currencies and official documents and in dealing with counterfeit products according to Major Salah Juma Nassir, Director Anti Economic Crimes of the Dubai Police.
He said that the anti economic crimes department recorded 461 economic crimes during the year 2010 compared to 322 crimes in 2009. He said that six suspects were charged with magic and fraud crimes.
The suspects were able to convince people that they have the ability to solve their problems.
During 2010, the department also arrested seven people who cheated and exploited people by claiming that they had the ability to eliminate harmful effects of black magic. He pointed out that police officials of counterfeit products, anti forgery and fraud section of the department had made every effort to arrest suspects who dealt in counterfeit products or violated intellectual property.
