The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday announced the schedule for the elections to fill four seats of Members of Legislative Council, two each in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states, which will fall vacant on March 29.
According to the ECI, East-West Godavari and Krishna-Guntur Teachers’ constituencies of Andhra Pradesh, represented by KVV Satyanarayana Raju and KS Lakshmana Rao respectively, would fall vacant on March 29. Similarly, the term of Dr K Nageshwar and Dileep Kumar Kapilavai, representing the Mahaboobnagar-Ranga Reddy-Hyderabad and Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Graduates’ constituencies respectively, would expire on March 29.
Therefore, the ECI has decided to conduct biennial elections to fill the four vacancies.
The notification for the elections would be issued on 19th February; the last date of making nominations will be 26th February and they would be scrutinised on 27th February. The last date for withdrawal of candidature will be 2nd March and polling will be held on 16th March from 8 AM to 4 PM. The counting of votes will be done on 19th March.
“The Model Code of Conduct will come into force with immediate effect in the districts in which the above constituencies are comprised,” the ECI said on Wednesday. (INN)
