EC WILL ACT IF PARTHASARATHY’S AFFIDAVIT WAS WRONG: BHANWARLAL
State’s Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal has said that if it was proved that minister Parthasarathy has filed a wrong affidavit during the 2009 elections, the Election Commission would take suitable action.
Bhanwar Lal has held a review meeting with the Collector and Tahsildar on the changes in voters list and setting up of polling centers here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said if there were mistakes and deliberate omissions in the affidavit filed by the minister suitable action would be taken. It may be mentioned that charges were made against Parthasarathy that he had hidden the fact that there was a FERA case pending against him, in the affidavit he has filed during the 2009 elections.
As the minister was imposed a fine on the FERA irregularities recently, a petition was filed against him with the Election Commission. Partha Sarathy won over his TDP rival with a slender majority from Penamaluru constituency of Krishna district in 2009. He has mentioned in his affidavit that there were no cases pending against him. If it is proved that Parthasarathy had filed a wrong affidavit, he might be disqualified as per the Representation of People’s Act, 1951. Under this act, a public representative could be barred from contesting elections for six years. (NSS)
