The Election Commission has given the go-ahead for the appointment of four persons, whose names were approved by Governor E. S. L. Narasimhan as Information Commissioners in the State Information Commission.
They are: C. Madhukar Raju (IFS retired), S. Prabhakar Reddy (IPS retired), M. Ratan, IPS, and P Vijayababu, journalist. The Commission also permitted the government to issue posting orders to 7,000 persons, who had undergone training and counseling after being selected as VROs and VRAs.
The EC, however, rejected the government’s plea to allow it to issue appointment orders for those next in line if selected and counseled candidates opt out. It said this exercise could be undertaken after completion of the process of the present by-elections.
Meanwhile, Vinod Zutsi, a Deputy Commissioner of EC, arrived here for a meeting with Collectors, SPs and other officials of the 12 districts where the by-polls are being held, along with Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal, on Saturday. (NSS)
