The Election Commission today announced the bye-elections on February 21 to six Legislative Council seats from Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies in Andhra Pradesh following retirement of the present members. As per the schedule announced today, the notification for the poll will be issued on January 28 and the last date for filing of nominations is February 4. After scrutiny the next day, the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is February 7 and polling will be held on February 21 from 8 AM to 4 PM. The counting of votes will take place on February 25 from 8 AM. The constituencies which go to polls are East-West Godavari Graduates’ Constituency, where Katcha George Victor is due to retire, Krishna-Guntur Graduates’ Constituency where Chigurupati Vara Prasad is due to retire, Medak-Nizamabad- Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates’ Constituency where Naradasu Laxman Rao is retiring and Srikakulam-Vizianagaram- Visakhapatnam Teachers’ Constituency where Gade Srinivasulu Naidu is retiring. Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Teachers’ Constituency and Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers’ Constituency also go to polls, where B Mohan Reddy and Chukka Ramaiah are due to retire. PTI
