Nagapattinam, March 31: Close on the heels of alliance leader and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi criticising Election Commission for its various restrictions, PMK founder leader Dr S Ramadoss today alleged the poll body was acting like an ‘opponent’ of the DMK-led front.
So far the front was considering AIADMK alone as the main opponent, but of late, Election Commission was also becoming another opponent, he told reporters at nearby Vailankanni. Karunanidhi had last week questioned the EC’s recent order transferring state DGP Letika Saran and several other IPS officers district collectors and also the vehicle checks conducted to prevent money power in April 13 assembly polls. However, the EC had maintained there was no bias in its order transferring the officials and defended the search and seizure of vehicles to curb use of money power in the polls. Ramadoss, whose party has been alloted 31 seats by the DMK, alleged that the EC was “hostile” towards the DMK-led combine.
He said PMK would offer unconditional support to the DMK for the full five year term without joining the government if the alliance was voted to power. He alleged the AIADMK was planning to distribute money to voters on a large scale. In a veiled reference to S K Vedaratnam, the sitting DMK MLA of Vedaranyam, who is contesting as an independent in the seat alloted to PMK, Ramadoss said individuals should not violate party discipline. PMK did not demand Vedaranyam but was contesting it only because it was alloted the seat, he added.
