Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal on Wednesday warned that severe action would be taken against the candidates and political parties if they try to lure the voters in the ensuing by-elections with cash and liquor.
Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, Bhanwarlal said that cases under Section 171 of IPC would be registered against the parties or candidates and also against the recipient of cash during the by-elections.
Earlier, Election Commissioner Brahma held a vide-conference with the District Collectors, Superintendants of Police and other officials of the 12 election-bound districts to review the arrangements for the by-elections to be held in 18 assembly and one Lok Sabha seats on June 12. Bhanwarlal said that the Election Commissioner was happy with the by-poll arrangements and gave necessary instructions to the officials.
Bhanwarlal also informed that a case has been booked against Tirupati MP Chinta Mohan for violating the Model Code of Conduct. He said a report with regard to a statement issued by Roads and Buildings Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao was pending and necessary action would be taken after the receipt of report.
He said the government has asked to conduct Rythu Chaitanya Sadassu across the State from June 15. (INN)
