EC to act tough against cash and liquor flow in by-polls

Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal on Saturday assured of taking adequate measures to stop flow of liquor and cash to lure voters in the by-elections for the 18 assembly and one Parliament seats in the State.

Talking to reporters at the State Secretariat, Bhanwarlal said that the Election Commission would also ensure that all candidates stop their campaign 48-hours before the polling. He informed that nearly Rs 5 crore cash and about 30,000 litres of liquor have been seized at different places in 12 districts where elections are to be held on June 12.

Bhanwarlal said that all the liquor shops have been that their sales should not exceed the average that they had during April 24-June 12 last year.

The CEO informed that the Election Commission might take a decision with regard to the appointment of RTI Commissioners by Monday. He also said that Deputy Election Commissioner Vijay Zutshi has expressed satisfaction over the arrangements being made for the by-elections. (INN)
