During the nights of Holy Ramadan even as Almighty Allah showers His blessings on His servants, there are a lot of Muslims who are busy in shopping, eating at food-points or passing time with friends, which is surely unfortunate. Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) said “It may be that a fasting person attains nothing but hunger and thirst from his fasting.” [Ibn Maajah]. This hadeeth indicates that the purpose of fasting is not just refraining from food and drink but to obtain purification of soul.
A student who didn’t study for the whole year shuns all his unnecessary activities when the exams near and starts preparing for the examination with complete dedication till he writes his last paper. No matter how careless he may be during the whole year, he will pass the exam due to hardwork in one last-ditch. But for those who neither study the whole year nor during the exams, they are destined to fail in the exams. Similarly Muslims should also prepare a timetable before Ramadan and should spend the whole of Ramadan in prayers and ibadah. They should not make Ramadan the month of earning profit, eating and shopping.
