Finance Minister Eatala Rajender is likely to attend a key meeting of Goods and Services Tax (GST) scheduled to be held in the national capital on Monday to sort out the important issues.
It may be noted here that Rajender made a strong pitch for more powers to the State if the Centre wants to implement the GST. He is likely to make a similar demand during Monday meeting to be chaired by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and is expected to take a final call on the States’ demand on devolution of powers from the Centre for GST.
In a meeting held on January 4 on the same issue, the State governments sought power of unilateral control on the assesses, whose turnover is put at Rs 1.5 crore. Though the Centre rejected plea for devolution of powers earlier, it is likely to bow down to the States demand for smooth implementation of GST at their levels. Jaitley stated the GST will be implemented in April by clearing all the issues. (NSS)
