The minister of finance Eatala Rajender had to face some discomforting moments when the entire opposition grilled the Minister and wanted to know the status of the Bangaru Thalli scheme which was introduced by the Congress government.
Finance Minister first said the scheme referred to by the members was scrapped and that budget allocations were also not made for it. Immediately Opposition Leader K Jana Reddy sprang on his feet and demanded to know how the government could abandon such a big scheme.
The minister who found himself in a Catch-22 situation took a U-turn and said that the government had not reviewed the scheme and would soon take a view on it. He tried to assure the House that the scheme was not and would not be scrapped.
TDP Floor Leader E Dayakar Rao said that it was a much better scheme than the Bangaru Lakshmi scheme. The Govt must not scrapp this scheme which aimed for the education of poor girls.
