East Africa’s biggest supermarket chain withdraws Nestle’s Maggi noodles

East Africa’s biggest supermarket chain Nakumatt has withdrawn Nestle’s Maggi noodle brand from its shops in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and South Sudan after demands from a Kenyan consumer group over food safety.

According to the BBC, the consumer group’s demands came following a partial ban on Maggi noodles in India where regulators described the product as “unsafe and hazardous”.

However, Nestle maintains that their products are absolutely safe.

Maggi noodles are quite famous in Kenya and are widely used in West African cuisine.

According to the reports, Kenya’s Bureau of Standards, the official government watchdog for product standards, has now issued a “verbal recall” for the noodles. (ANI)
