Earthquake hits Delhi-NCR, strong tremors rock North India

NEW DELHI: Strong tremors were felt across North India following an earthquake in the Hindu Kush region, creating panic among people on Friday.

The earthquake, measuring 6.3 on the Richter Scale or “moderate”, which is strong enough to cause considerable damage, occurred around 5.09 pm.

According to the Centre for Seismology of the India Meteorological Department, jolts felt in Delhi-NCR were strong and lasted for 10 seconds. 

The tremors were felt in most cities, including Mathura, Lucknow, Prayagraj and several other parts of North India.

Many other cities experienced the tremors forcing the people to run out of their homes and offices.

Panic also gripped the people in Kashmir valley.

According to media reports, tremors also felt in Pakistan’s Islamabad and Lahore.
