Earthquake hits Aleutian Islands of US

New York, September 27: An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale jolted Aleutian Islands of the US state of Alaska Sunday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The tremor occurred about 9:27 a.m. local time (1827 GMT) at a depth of 226 km, with its epicentre some 2,070 km west-southwest of Anchorage, Xinhua reported citing the USGS.

No tsunami warning was issued after the earthquake, whose magnitude was preliminarily measured at 6.2 by the USGS.
