Ankara [Turkey]: A powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.2 on the Richter scale struck western Turkey’s Izmir province on Monday.
According to the Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the quake hit Izmir’s Karaburun district at a depth of 22.98 kilometers.
However, no causalities have been reported so far.
Dr. Suha Ozden, vice rector at Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University and Faculty of Engineering Geology Department professor warned about quake aftershocks.
“As it is the nature of every earthquake, we can experience aftershocks that can range between 4.9 and 5.2 magnitude in the upcoming days,” Anadolu news agency quoted Dr. Suha Ozden, vice rector at Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University and Faculty of Engineering Geology Department, as saying.
As per reports, Greece was also affected by an earthquake that struck between the Greek islands of Lesbos and Chios on Monday.
No causalities were reported in this earthquake as well. (ANI)
