Hyderabad: On the early polls talk taking its zenith in Telangana, Chief Election Commissioner Om Prakash Rawath on September 7 said that the Election Commission is to take a call in seven days. The EC is yet to take a call on the key issue of holding early polls for Telangana in the wake of dissolution of Assembly he said.
Talking to media persons in Delhi, the CEC clarified that he heard to Government Advisor Rajiv Sharma, officials and others from Telangana on the early polls. The EC, he said, is bound to hold the elections within six months of dissolution of any Assembly of a state. “As per Supreme Court directive, we are bound to hold elections within six months and a decision will be taken soon”, he noted.
Rawath also said for Telangana the elections may be conducted in November or December or in May next year and the date is yet to be finalized. Notwithstanding, the EC is seriously looking into possible conduct of early elections for Telangana along with four other States. The CEC said it is not right to talk of the schedule of the EC on the elections to the state on obtaining a report from CEO on the poll preparedness.
On TRS chief and caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s statement of early polls for Telangana in November, he said leaders are ought not to talk on such things.
