Hyderabad: Telangana CID, which is probing the leak of TS EAMCET-II medical question papers, today arrested two key accused in the case.
“In the TS EAMCET-II-2016 (medical) entrance examination question paper leak case, two key accused, Raj Varma and Sanjay Kumar Prabhat, were arrested by the CID,” a release from the DGP office said.
According to the CID, Raj Varma, a native of Bihar, now residing and running a bar and restaurant in New Delhi, had organised three camps at Bengaluru, where 40 students were given practice with the two sets of leaked TS EAMCET-II-2016 question papers.
Varma, along with another accused, brought the leaked question papers to Bengaluru camps.
Sanjay Kumar Prabhat is a close associate of another accused Sunil Singh. He actively participated in organising a camp in Shirdi, where 13 students were given practice with the two sets of leaked question papers. He collected Rs 30 lakh from the parents and gave it to Sunil Singh, the release said.
So far, over 25 brokers have been arrested by the CID and efforts are on to apprehend the other accused.
On July 25, CID had registered a case under relevant sections of IPC and other provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Public Examinations (Prevention of Malpractices and Unfair means) Act-1997, after in its preliminary inquiry it was found that prima facie there is a case for registering an FIR.
The probe revealed that some students appearing for TS EAMCET-II-2016 (Medical) examination from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh were taken to camps set up in at least five cities about two to three days prior to the exam.
They were given practice with the leaked copies of two question papers comprising 320 questions with correct answers, the CID had said.
At a review meeting held here on August 2, CID officials informed Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao that Delhi turned out to be the centre for the leak and there were 34 brokers, who conspired to sell the paper. As many as 200 parents were in touch with them to buy those.
The Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET-II) was conducted on July 9 by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad and the results were declared on July 14.
According to reports, a few candidates who got rank in thousands in Andhra Pradesh EAMCET had got a rank below 500 in Telangana EAMCET-II.
In the wake of question paper leakage, Telangana government on August 2 announced cancellation of the EAMCET-II examination and EAMCET-III exam was held in September.
