Following confusion on the date of birth of the 180th rank student,EAMCET Medicine counseling was suspended for half-an-hour in the State.
Dr NTR Health University is conducting the first phase of medical counseling to fill MBBS and BDS seats in the Medical colleges from July 20 across the State.Counseling Center camp officer Prof. B.V. Shankar has said that student’s seat was kept pending and a report was forwarded to the NTR Health University in this regard.
Tension prevailed at the JNTU counseling center where counseling for medical seats was in progress as several students unions, including SFI and PDSU staged protests,demanding online filling of seats under management quota.
Student leaders have alleged that the private colleges had defied even the advice of the Governor and were selling seats for Rs 1 crore each. Students also expressed their anger at the non-release of 100 seats due to the Telangana region. When the situation turned tense, police entered the scene and taken
the agitating students into custody.
Tension prevailed at the JNTU campus on Friday when the
activists of Students Federation of India (SFI) and Progressive Democratic Student’s Union (PDSU) tried to disrupt the first day of counseling for filling up the MBBS and BDS seats. The activists were demanding that the process of filling up the seats be held through online method only.
The activists alleged that private colleges have simply ignored the ecommendations of Governor ESL Narasimhan and Andhra Pradesh High Court and sold the management quota seats for up to Rs 65 lakh to Rs 1 crore. They also alleged that injustice was done to the Telangana region in the allotment of seats and demanded that the government provide adequate infrastructure facilities and faculty in the colleges of the region.
Sensing that the situation might go out of control, the city police intervened and arrested the activists. They were later shifted to a nearby police station. (INN)
