Hyderabad, May 09: Your doctor may soon be just a click away. Betting big on the need for medical services at the door step, Mediangels, a Hyderabad-based startup has initiated on what it claims to be the first of its kind global e-hospital through its website mediangels.com. The company hopes to bring together consultation, diagnosis and health information to customers on a global platform.
“Through our panel of global experts customers can access medical care for a particular problem through e-consultations. Right now, we have tied up with 300 doctors in over 85 super specialties from a global pool of more than fifteen countries,” said Debraj Shome, co-founder, Mediangels.
He said it would become easier for the customer as various technological tools like call centers, e-mails, tele-conferencing and videoconferencing options were also available and they could choose the best doctor based on his/her expertise.
The company has also tied up with around 21,000 accredited laboratories from across the globe which could help the patient avail diagnostic services at the doorstep too.
Mediangels follows a flat fee structure with consultations starting from Rs 250. However, if the panel consists of international doctors, the fees could up to $100. Mediangels follows a 50:50 revenue sharing model with the doctors.
“Even the best of hospitals have 40-50 specialties, while we offer 85 medical super specialties.
Also, every step is taken from the customer point of view to protect their privacy and follow HIPAA (health insurance portability and accountability) guidelines recommended by the USFDA. We also display comprehensive information about the doctors,” said Arbinder Singal, another co-founder.
The initiative which began its operations in late January this year has so far had 250 patients, of which 60 are from other countries. “We are now evaluating tie-ups with doctors from 15 other countries,” said Shome.
Further, the company also plans to take the services to rural locations by launching a specialised domain rral.mediangels.com, where customers will be provided free consultation on a weekly basis through healthcare centres. Capital investments of Rs 2 crore has been made so far into the set-up.
“We had raised Rs 2.5 crore from a top PE firm. We are now looking at raising series-B funding for at least another Rs 5 crore in the next year. This would be used to build technology, software that helps doctors transcribe notes. We are already ahead of business plan and assume the first year would see 2000-5000 customers,” said Shome.
