Thiruvananthapuram, October 15: Activists of the pro-CPI(M) Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) today took out a march to the local head office of the State Bank of India protesting the bank management’s reported move to temporarily appoint retired staff to fill vacancies.
Inaugurating the march, DYFI State Secretariat member I B Sathish said the move to post retired staff would affect thousands of educated and qualified youth who were unemployed.
The SBI was denying jobs to youth by posting personnel on contract basis, he said, adding that several young candidates who had appeared for tests and interviews in the bank were still awaiting postings.
After the dissolution of the Banking Service Recruitment Board, there were only limited appointments in the banking sector. In this context, the move to bring in retired hands through the backdoor was deplorable, Sathish said.
