Dy CM’s gesture gives new lease of life to disabled man

Deputy Chief Minister of Revenue department Mohammed Mahmood Ali has donated two Tea Dispensers (thermos/flask) to Haridas Biradar, a physically handicapped, which will help him in eking his livelihood.

Haridas Biradar, belongs to a poor family, his father is an autorickshaw driver and his mother works as a maid in households in Aliabad in Old city. Haridas Biradar lost his two legs in a freak train accident in 2010 and remained disillusioned with life, but got a new lease of life with the gesture of Mohammed Mahmood Ali (then an MLC) got Rs 1,30,000 through CMRF with which Haridas got his German-made artificial legs. With his new lease of life, he was working as lift operator at a Cancer hospital in the city on contract basis. But life took another turn with the hospital laying off all the contract staff under that particular contractor and Haridas was jobless since 2013.

Disgusted with disabled life and joblessness, one day Haridas Biradar went to Necklace road on the Tank bund with an intention to end his life. But he changed his thought of committing suicide on seeing a handicapped man selling eatables on his mobile stall. This encouraged him to start his own livelihood by selling tea and snacks on his Tri-wheeler moped. He once again approached the Deputy Chief Minister for support and Mahmood Ali immediately obliged and ordered for two stainless Tea Dispensers (thermos/flask).

On Friday afternoon, Mohammed Mahmood Ali called Haridas Biradar to his chambers and handed over the two Tea dispensers in the Secretariat.

Speaking on the occasion, Haridas Biradar said the gesture of the Deputy Chief Minister will make him stand on his own legs. He exuded confidence that this gesture will help him earn Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000 per month through selling tea and snacks on the Necklace road. (NSS)
