Dy CM house besieged over private varsity bill

Students union activists led by PDSU on Thursday staged dharna in front of the residence of Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari in Warangal opposing the Private Universities Bill proposed by the state government.

Speaking to media persons, PDSU representatives said that the privatization of education would make education in affordable to the marginalized sections. The activists lamented that on one hand the government is claiming to provide free KG to PG education in the state and on the other it was welcoming private varsities which would do a irreparable damage to the education sector in the state. They demanded the government to do away with its plan and instead concentrate on enhancing infrastructure in the state run educational institutions across the state.

The activists tried to barge in to the house of Dy CM, however the police foiled their bid and bundled them into police vans and shifted them to various police station and released them later.

Earlier, a large number of students besieged the administrative building of Kakatiya University opposing the proposed Private Universities Bill by the state government. (INN)
