Hyderabad, Sept.12 (NSS): Train No.12220 Secunderabad – Mumbai LTT Duronto Express met with a derailment at Martur Station between Shahbad and Gulbarga on Solapur Division of Central Railway at around 02:15 hours today. Two passengers died while nine passengers suffered injuries, out of which four were grievous. Accident Relief Medical Equipment (ARME) trains rushed to the spot from Solapur and Wadi on receipt of information and rescue, relief and restoration measures were taken up immediately on war-footing. Prompt medical aid was provided at the spot and those needing medical attention were rushed to the Civil Hospital, Gulbarga for treatment. All the injured have been discharged after the doctors attended to them, except one passenger who is undergoing treatment. The remaining portion of the Express train, later resumed journey to the destination. one line (Down line) was restored by 05:40hrs to ensure train operations on single line.
A.K.Mital, Chairman, Railway Board rushed to the spot of accident from New Delhi to oversee the relief measures. Umesh Singh, Additional General Manager, South Central Railway along with a team of Senior Officials also visited the site of Accident. The General Manager of Central Railway, Divisional Railway Manager, Solapur Division and other senior officials of the Zone also reached the spot to supervise rescue and relief operations besides restoring normalcy in train operations in the section. Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Minister of Railways has announced enhanced ex-gratia of Rs. 2.0 lakhs to the kin of the deceased passengers, Rs. 50, 000/- to those who were grievously injured and Rs. 25, 000/- for those who suffered simple injuries.
